While the Grand Prix support races hold special memories for Lockwood Racing's Fabian Coulthard, this weekend in Melbourne is all about looking forward.
"We had fantastic race speed at the Clipsal 500 (in Adelaide), and it's something I want to continue" Coulthard said.
With two fifths and a fourth the Coulthard in the Lockwood Racing VF Commodore was quick and consistent on the streets of Adelaide, finishing the weekend second in the championship.
Coulthard does, however, want to focus on qualifying this weekend after finishing outside the top ten for the Clipsal races.
"We had great race pace but we couldn't get it together for qualifying," he said.
"Hopefully it was just a one off thing and we can rediscover our qualifying mojo."
Last year, Coulthard achieved a brilliant Grand Prix treble - first pole, first race win and first overall round win in his V8 Supercar career.
Coulthard said the result was important for his championship challenge in 2013.
"It gave me awesome confidence for the rest of the year."
History showed that the Grand Prix was a tremendous platform for Coulthard's most successful year to date in V8 Supercars with three championship race wins and another nine podium places.
Coulthard hopes this year's race can provide a similar result.
"It's a great atmosphere and I can't wait to get out there," he said.
The V8 Supercars hit the track on Thursday for practice and qualifying before a four race support program from Friday to Sunday.
