Two races yielded another haul of points and a welcome podium for Lockwood Racing's Fabian Coulthard today at Symmons Plains for round two of the V8 Supercar Championship.
On the short, twisty, circuit, qualifying would prove crucial for a strong race result in the two 100km afternoon races.
In the first 10 minute qualifying session, Coulthard finished 12th after a brake lock up, but he performed better in the second session, netting a strong fifth grid spot.
Coulthard battled to ninth place in race one, just pipped at the line by Redbull's Craig Lowndes.
In the second race, the Lockwood Racing VF Commodore held off Volvo's Scott McLaughlin and Lowndes to come home third.
"To start 12th for race one and fifth in race two and fight our way forward - obviously to a podium in race two, it's been a really good day for us at Lockwood Racing. The guys tuned up the car a lot through the day and it felt a lot better in race two. It took a fair bit of work to get it to that point but we can still improve and make it better again. We'll do what we can tomorrow and try and tune up the car to make it even better."
In the first race, Redbull's Jamie Whincup won from HRT's James Courtney and FPR's Mark Winterbottom. The two Redbull team mates clashed on the circuit leading to an off track excursion from Craig Lowndes.
In the second race it was Whincup again from Winterbottom and Lockwood Racing's Fabian Coulthard.
