How it happened

The Lockwood Racing team’s day was defined by tyres. The practice allocation is made up of tyres used – or not used – during the previous race. If you finish all the races, therefore, you can be stuck with well-used tyres during practice sessions. The ultra-consistent Coulthard was a victim of this for much of the day, with some sub-par rubber affecting car balance and lap times. At the end of the session - with a brand new set allocated for practice – Coulthard showed the real potential of the VF Commodore.

Driver Quotes

Fabian Coulthard

“We put a set of tyres on and we chased one end of the car, put a different set on and chased the other end of the car! We put a fresh, new, tyre on at the end and that’s what we can do with it. We chased our tail a little bit today with not knowing the tyre quality but with a good tyre we pop up fifth. With a little more running on a good tyre tomorrow, hopefully we can improve again.”

Lockwood Racing co-owner Brad Jones

“They had a pretty rough run today but still managed to set a top 5 time right at the end of the final session. They’re in pretty good shape.”
