THE WORD FROM TIM
The crowds were out in force today for the Supercars final race at Pukekohe. Qualifying was run in sunny conditions and the Freightliner Racing Commodore came alive with the fresh Dunlop tyres, seeing Tim qualify in 6th position. This result saw him in the top ten yet again to start todays final 220km race.
The race got underway, with Tim avoiding the lap one drama of three of the Prodrive cars coming together and tangling up the field. Tim was strong in holding position and when he came into complete his first stop he got a big surprise when Shane Van Gisbergen locked up behind him, taking out the rear of the Freightliner Racing Commodore. For Shane, his race was essentially over as his team could only send him back out over 10 laps down. Luckily Tim was able to continue, however with the balance of his car very unsettled, it was using its tyres more than usual, and making the car difficult to handle. Tim pressed on to finish the 70 lap race in 15th.
“It was a fair shock to get a huge hit like that coming into the pit entry. The damage was causing our Freightliner Racing Commodore to be quite loose through the high-speed corners. For Shane (Van Gisbergen) that error is championship changing. I can imagine he’ll be pretty gutted.”
“Overall I was happy with the weekend here at Pukekohe, we rolled out a much different car to last year and to qualify in the top ten both days was really good, plus yesterday’s result was my best yet at Pukekohe. Just a shame we couldn’t quite get the finishing result around the same mark after that damage today.”
