Race 26 (95 Laps/250kms)

Finished: 11th

Winner: Jamie Whincup

The Freightliner Racing team headed into the final race day of the season with their heads held high after the thrilling podium finish yesterday. The team qualified in a similar position as yesterday – 16th, and knew they could work their way forward again. However contact early on in the race from Cameron Waters saw Slade spin, when he was able to re-join he made slight contact with Winterbottom, but found himself shuffled down the order in 24th. The incident was set to be investigated post-race, but the damage was done. It was a battle to move towards the front, and with a couple of safety cars, the team elected to pit Tim in the latter safety car period for fresher tyres to help him charge through the bunched-up pack. Tim put in a stellar drive, charging through a number of cars through the field and crossing the finish line in 11th.

“After our first pit stop we come out amongst cars that I felt we were faster than, and passing is hard here. To make any in-roads here today we had to try a couple of moves, a couple paid off a couple didn’t. It was a little desperate at times but everyone was trying to make something happen today.”

“It was awkward there with Waters and I got turned around, putting us down the order. I passed a few there at the end when we put on some greener tyres and made some spots due to others mistakes.”

“I knew what we had to do in that race to move up a spot in the championship and we managed to do that. It feels like a realy tough year but we’ve still had some solid results, couple of podium finishes and I think we’ve got some good thigns coming for 2018 so hopefully that gives us a little bit more speed and we can be towards the front on a consistent basis.”

“As always a big thanks to my team and supporters for their efforts throughout the year, it’s a huge effort behind the scenes to do what we do. To all my crew trackside and at the workshop, a big thanks for all your hard work this year. It’s been a big one!”
