Tim Slade found himself breaking lap records to top the time sheets at todays first official Supercars test day at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Freightliner Racing / Alliance Truck Parts ZB Commodore was unmissable on track, and in the final minutes when all teams put on new tyres for a shootout style finish, it was all smiles when Slade topped the times. The practice lap record breaking time was a 1:28.6157s, and almost a whopping .5 of a second in front of the next competitor.
Tim said “Like everyone else in pit lane, we had a program to work to today and we tried not to get sucked into changing it for the track conditions and kept focused on our plan. We were mindful of what we wanted from the car when we wanted to put new tyres on, so we achieved our goal today.”
“Everyone has put in a massive effort to get to this point so to end the day at the top of the times is a great reward for our Freightliner Racing and Alliance Truck Parts team. A big thanks to all the crew here and back at the workshop.”
“Whilst it is only a test day, it’s a good result heading into the start of the season. We’ve got a lot of changes from last year with the new model and new engines, so I feel like there are some positives moving forward. I’m looking forward to getting back to my home town of Adelaide for the Adelaide 500.”
Chief Engineer Andrew Edwards added “It’s hard to see where we were for most of the day as we were running on different tyres than most of the other teams.”
“At the end there, that was the first shot where everyone was on the same kind of tyres. It was a good result for the team, and nice to reward all the longs hours they’ve done to get these cars ready.”
The Freightliner Racing team have a week before they head across to Adelaide for the huge season opening event, the Adelaide 500.
