THE WORD FROM NICK

Track conditions were hot for the Freightliner / Alliance Truck Parts duo of Tim Slade and Nick Percat today. With temperatures at almost 35 degrees, inside the Supercars were up over 60 degrees!

Qualifying conditions were tricky because the start of the session was the best window to go for that much needed fast lap, rather than the usual one lap dash at the end. The times were extremely close yet again, with not even two tenths of a second separating 5th to 25th position. The team opted to pit both Tim and Nick early in the race, however with no safety cars it turned into a tyre game to see who could look after theirs better than others. The results were mixed with Nick finishing 9th and Tim finishing 14th. The result saw Tim jump up a spot in the championship, he now sits 9th.

The Supercars hit the track tomorrow morning for qualifying, with the top ten heading into the fan favorite shootout. A final 200km race will conclude the top end event! Nick recaps the day below.

NICK

“Qualifying was a little battle today. With the Carrera Cup cars on track prior to our session we predicted the track to produce a lot more rear grip for our car and it didn’t, and with the hot track temperatures the best laps were achieved early in the qualifying session. You can see the qualifying results were a bit mixed, and we were going to start further down the grid from where we wanted.”

“I got a really good race start and picked my way through a few cars on the first lap. The Freightliner / Alliance Truck Parts Commodore looked after its tyres well, I was able drive up to the back of Whincup and Lowndes but didn’t have that little bit extra to pass them.”

“Our goal was to get the Freightliner / Alliance Truck Parts Racing Commodore back into the ten which we did. Plus, I think we got a good read on where we need to get the car for qualifying tomorrow, so a bit of work ahead, and Tim and I will work hard to move forward.”
