THE RECAP & WORD FROM TIM
Just as Adelaide promised, the temperatures soared to 40 degrees today, requiring drivers to keep a cool head in the blistering hot conditions.
The times continued to improve for Freightliner Racing’s Tim Slade throughout the practice sessions, moving into the top ten then solidifying himself there before the weekend’s first qualifying session.
Qualifying saw the top twelve drivers split by less than half a second, with Slade narrowly missing the shootout by 0.0078 of a second! Tim was the best of the rest, so will be starting from position 11. With times like this we’re not sure what will be hotter tomorrow, the temperatures or the racing!
Drivers will have one final practice session tomorrow, followed by the top ten shootout and first race of the year – 250kms, flat out, around the Adelaide Parklands Circuit.
“Qualifying was a little frustrating today as we had a really good car in the Freightliner Racing Commodore, and I made a mistake on my best lap which cost us a tenth or so of a second. I don’t like to use the could have, would have, should have, but I think we could have been inside the top ten for sure.”
“Unfortunately, we’re a hundredths of a second off, so we sit in 11th to start tomorrow’s race. No top ten shootout for us, but it’s pleasing for us to know the car is speedy and hopefully it stays that race across the 250km race tomorrow and we can move forward in the first race of the season.”
