THE RECAP AND WORD FROM ENGINEER – TONY WOODWARD

Conditions were cool today for the final race of the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint and all eyes were on the skies as it rained on and off throughout the day. Only during the latter part of the race did the skies open for a brief moment, but the rain wasn’t enough to change the game and force drivers in for wet tyres.

For Tim in the Freightliner Racing Supercar, the cooler conditions didn’t bring out the speed as shown in yesterday’s race. The parc ferme rule meant the cars were only allowed to make changes after practice, and not after qualifying, so the Freightliner Racing Supercar was setup to tackle both qualifying and the 200km race. Whilst the car wasn’t set up to maximise its strengths today, nothing was lost, with Tim holding his position of 12th.

The team are set to have the tightest turnaround of the year as they will be on track at Phillip Island in less than a weeks’ time. The CoolDrive crew will stay on in Tasmania to work on their cars Monday; before travelling back to the main land where they will head straight to the Island to continue their preparations for next weekend’s WD-40 SuperSprint event.

TONY

“I thought we had a really good practice sessions this morning, and we found good direction with the Freightliner Racing Supercar. The conditions changed by the time we went out for qualifying, which caught us out. With the parc ferme conditions we couldn’t do anything with car to try improve it for the race.”

“The strategy wasn’t quite on point, and race pace was lacking a little bit in terms of yesterday. Overall we didn’t lose any positions across the weekend, but we definitely wanted to be further ahead. See what we can do next weekend at the Island!”
