RECAP AND WORD FROM BRAD JONES
Tim got a blistering start to today’s 120km race, moving up two spots on the opening lap. The race was settled by lap five, then the leaders started to make their compulsory pit stops. With most completing their stops in the next few laps, Slade found himself in the front pack and was using this clean air to bank some fast laps while the others battled behind.
On lap 10 James Courtney and Tim Slade both suffered a flat tyre at the same spot coming into turn one, forcing them to limp their Supercars back to the pits. The Freightliner Racing team worked quickly to get Tim back on track where he remained on the lead lap.
As a safety car was called to remove debris from the track, the order was bunched up and the racing resumed with 10 laps to go. Slade was in 20th and since he pitted later than most in the field, he now had better tyres on than most to fight forward. He made his way forward to cross the line in 17th.
“It was a pretty tough day at the office for Tim Slade in the Freightliner/Alliance Truck Parts Commodore today. We had a good strategy to play out which we feel would have bolstered Tim in or around the top ten. Unfortunately, Tim and James Courtney popped a tyre at the same time, we don’t know what the cause of that was, if there was something on the track or if we were running the cambers a bit marginal. We’ll look into it further tonight.”
“Overall we’re still inside the top ten, so we’re sitting in a good position in the championship. Hopefully tomorrow we can press on and have a better day.”
