RECAP – We crossed the ditch to arrive at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint, our only international race on the Supercars calendar. Unfortunately, weather was not on our side for practice one. As the session rolled out, we also saw the rain and gusty winds roll in. The team opted to keep Tim in the garage to save on tyres. This paired with a red flag bought on by Richie Stanaway, unfortunately meaning no lap time was set.

Practice two was more successful as we saw the sun come out and the track dry up. The team focused on getting laps in as this was missed in the first thirty-minute session. Tim was lacking front grip, and this was the key point towards the end of practice. Finishing in P11, the team are positive they are taking steps in the right direction and will continue to work on the appropriate set up for Pukekohe.

“Practice one presented difficult and changing conditions with on and off periods of rain and drying track. We elected to wait out the majority of the session in the garage saving tyres, at 3min remaining in the session we made the call to end the session not expecting the circuit to dry Intime for any meaningful running, ultimately a combination of wind and lots of cars meant it dried enough for a few cars to get a good lap right at the end of the session so we were kicking ourselves there.

Practice two was more straightforward with full dry running through the session, we prioritised laps early in the session due to lack of running in practice one, ultimately tuning in more front grip through the session but not going far enough for the balance to suit the running at the end of the session, we will continue down our path overnight and roll out with some more aggressive changes to bring us more into the window for practice 3 in the morning”
