RECAP: Final qualifying session at the GC600 saw the biggest crash of the event. With one-minute to go in the session Scott McLaughlin had a huge incident crashing into the wall at turn one, getting air and flipping onto his side. Thankfully he was unhurt and walked away but his weekend was finished. At the time, Tim sat in P11 and missed out on his second flying lap. The session unfortunately did not resume. Sladey unfortunately narrowly missed out on the shootout which consisted of nine cars. The Freightliner Alliance Racing duo started P11 for today’s race.

RECAP: Beautiful clear skies and typical QLD weather once again for the final race of the weekend. Co-driver Ash Walsh once again started the race in the Freightliner Alliance Racing Supercar.

Getting a great start off the line, Ash unfortunately ran into some first lap trouble. A 4-car pileup was ahead at turn 11 and as Ash came round the corner, he had nowhere to go but into the tyre wall. Thankfully he managed to reverse and get going again, albeit with some damage to the front of the car.

With his first pit stop on lap 25, Ash remained in the car to begin his next stint and showed exceptional race pace - on par with the leaders. Handing the car over cleanly on lap 61, Slade jumped in for the remainder of the race.

With an incident free remainder of the race the Freightliner Alliance Racing duo crossed the finish line in P17.

The boys looking ahead to the final round of the Pirtek Enduro Cup at Sandown where they are eager to get car 14 back up in that top ten.

“Ash got a great start today and was looking strong, so it was just unfortunate that when he came around the corner he had nowhere to go. Luckily it didn’t do too much damage and he could continue but it screwed our race from there. There wasn’t much I could do except finish the race as best I could.

Not how we wanted to end our day on the GC but that’s racing for you. Bit of bad luck this weekend. Having no safety cars during the race didn’t help us either. Just wasn’t our day!

Last Enduro Cup race at Sandown in 2-weeks’ time so we’ll see how we go there and hopefully we can put her up into that 10 again.”
