RACE 30 / 161 LAPS / 500KMS

TIME: 13:35

CONDITIONS: Dry

FINISHED: Position 13th

WINNER: Jamie Whincup / Craig Lowndes

RECAP: The Freightliner Racing Supercar had a less than desirable day from the beginning. From the start of the race, Ash was caught up in slow cars off the line meaning a loss in track position. His early race fortunes did not improve several laps later, as he was caught in an incident which forced him to pit early. The contact caused the car’s bonnet to come loose, forcing an early pitstop and adjusted strategy. Whilst this put the #14 behind the eight ball, Ash and Tim fought back across the day, gaining their way back onto the lead lap and remarkably to 11th position midway through.

However, their fortunes were set to turn again as a rear suspension component failure issue forced them to slow. They were able to carry on, but missing the pace needed to continue the fight with those around them. From this point, the car was managed through the remaining laps to finish in 13th position at the chequered flag.

THE WORD FROM TIM

“Ash got off on a great start today and made some strong gains moving us up the grid. The car was feeling good and thankfully the rain stayed away. Temps were still very cold but we were managing everything well.

I think we got up to about 11th and then yeah it unfortunately went downhill from there. I felt the rear suspension go and it was really difficult to drive. There wasn’t much I could do except try and bring it home as best I could. A real shame as we were making a strong comeback.

It’s been great having Ash back again, we work and drive together really well so it has been great to have him back on board. Retro Round is always fun and having the OzEmail livery return was special.”
